I have always loved staying at Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts whenever I visit a new place. One thing I’ve always appreciated about the brand is its consistency in delivering warm, comfortable and familiar hospitality — the kind of service that makes you feel at home even when you’re miles away. However, this time, my experience felt somewhat average. There were a few hiccups that disrupted the overall experience: 1. Poor wifi connection The wifi was unfortunately quite terrible and slow throughout my stay. At times, my mobile roaming connection was significantly better. For a hotel of this standard, I expected the internet connection to be more reliable. 2. Language barrier Another challenge was communication with some of the staff. I completely understand that English may not be their primary language, but working in the hospitality and service industry, being able to communicate basic information in a common language is important , especially when it comes to customer service. After spending a few days in China and realising how much of our holiday relied on Google Translate, it became rather troublesome at times. 😅 That said, there were definitely some things I really enjoyed about the hotel. What I liked: 1. Excellent location The hotel is conveniently located near several attractions. The Anshun Bridge, riverside and surrounding pavilion are just nearby, and the views from the hotel were exceptional. It’s also within walking distance to Taikoo Li and IFS, which was a huge plus for us. 2. Good halal options at breakfast This was something I genuinely appreciated. There were quite a number of halal-friendly choices available, including beef and chicken dishes. As a Muslim traveller, it made breakfast much easier and more enjoyable. I’ve stayed at other branches where halal options were much more limited, so I really appreciated the effort made here to accommodate Muslim guests. 3. Friendly and accommodating staff Despite the language barrier, the staff were genuinely helpful, facilitating and accommodating throughout our stay. They were always willing to assist, even when communication wasn’t the easiest. Overall: I wouldn’t say the stay was bad — far from it. The location, views, breakfast options and helpful staff were definitely highlights. But compared with my previous experiences with Shangri-La, this particular stay didn’t quite give me that usual “Shangri-La feeling” of seamless, warm and effortless hospitality. Perhaps it was simply an off experience this time, but I hope the hotel can improve the wifi and communication aspects, as these small things can make quite a difference to the overall stay.

Location can’t top, facilities are spotless, rooms are spacious, and staff the most gracious. The food was excellent, both local and international cuisine. Our favorite hotel here. They sure know how to make little ones feel special. The panda setup was so adorable. We couldn’t stop awwwing and oowing. Five star all around. Thank you
I don’t think this hotel worth of your stay here. While amenities look a bit outdated, but still fine, the service they provide is the worst! My biggest disappointment here was their spa - total disaster, after which I felt like I was more scammed than relaxed. When you pay the highest price in the entire city for the spa, you truly expect at least higher quality services. But not here! All they can offer to you - is just a nice interior of this spa complex. So forget about the high quality massage: I got my 90 minutes of very bored woman who I believed was on her phone the entire time (she used only one hand most of the times). And she was not professional at all - that’s the sad part of this “high end” spa. But when I walked to the front desk to discuss this issue, no one understood what I wanted, because their English is limited to just basic things from greeting people to sending them into their rooms. So, after all, I felt like I just threw away a lot of money for very bad service, and have to deal with that. And that’s why I’d never stay in this hotel again - I’ll better go to another high class hotel where customer service matters.
Average for 5 star hotel. Breakfast ok, I've had better and more interesting, many items very salty. Worst problem is the wifi, standard wifi is slow and flaky even after the concierge "fixed" it. Presumably they are trying to up sell to some premium option. Worst 5 star hotel wifi I have found.
The room was large, the location was ideal and the facilities like the gym and the pool were the highlight but the service quality was mixed. Overall the service lacked the warm quality I have come to expect from other Shang hotels in Asia, especially as a Golden Circle member. It was difficult to order room service in English. One night a lady called an woke me up mistakenly having though I had request something. When I corrected her she didnt even apologize and instead abruptly hung up the phone.
