Day 4
Journey Through Medieval Ireland – From Dublin to Cork via Kilkenny & Tipperary
Today, your journey continues from Dublin to Cork, uncovering some of Ireland’s most historic medieval towns and castles along the way.
Your first stop is Kilkenny, Ireland’s premier medieval town, located just 90 minutes from Dublin. Stroll along Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile, where history comes alive through landmarks like the 13th-century St. Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower. Visit Rothe House, the county’s genealogical center, before making your way to the city’s crown jewel—Kilkenny Castle. With over 800 years of history, this magnificent Norman fortress invites you to explore its elegant rooms, manicured gardens, and fascinating tales of knights, earls, and duchesses.
In the afternoon, continue into South Tipperary, a land of rustic castles, ancient abbeys, and rolling farmlands. Pass through the charming town of Cahir, where the impressive 12th-century Cahir Castle, one of Ireland’s largest, dominates the landscape. Then, journey to Cashel, home to one of Ireland’s most breathtaking historic sites—the Rock of Cashel. This fortified medieval religious complex, gifted to the Church in the 13th century, boasts stunning Celtic art, medieval architecture, a round tower, a chapel, and a historic graveyard.
After a day rich in history and heritage, conclude your journey as you arrive at your hotel in Cork, ready to continue your Irish adventure.
