The city is dotted with red-brick heritage buildings, a landmark Citadel, some first-rate museums, and is home to an epic 2.5-mile seafront boardwalk. The dining scene has flourished in recent years; you can find craft breweries and farm-to-table bistros, especially around the trendy North End. Highlights include Citadel National Historic Site, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Halifax Public Gardens, the Halifax Central Library, St. Paul's Church, and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Today you may choose to enjoy an optional day tour to Peggys Cove and/or Lunenburg. Peggy's Cove is a small rural community located on the eastern shore of St. Margarets Bay in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Of the 160 historic lighthouses in Nova Scotia, no beacon is photographed like Peggy's Point Lighthouse in this vibrant fishing village. Built in 1915, it still keeps watch over the surging ocean waves and working lobster boats. Be sure to amble over the giant rocks here that have been worn smooth by the sea and share in the stunning vistas. Lunenburg specifically its Old Town is one of two communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Seventy percent of the original colonial buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries continue to greet visitors with their colorful facades. While here be sure to partake in a walking tour where your guide will regale you with tales of the town's seafaring and rum-running history.
