From the moment we arrived until the moment we reluctantly left, our stay at The Aiyana Pemba was nothing short of exceptional. We have been fortunate enough to stay in some wonderful hotels around the world, but what makes The Aiyana truly special isn't just the breathtaking setting, luxurious villas or beautiful surroundings – it's the people. Every single member of staff made us feel genuinely welcome and cared for. The service was warm, personal and sincere, never scripted or intrusive. Everyone seemed to take real pride in ensuring we were happy, constantly checking that everything was perfect without ever feeling overbearing. A special thank you to the owner, Max Sungkur, whose kindness and genuine hospitality perfectly reflected the atmosphere throughout the resort. By the end of our stay, he felt more like a friend than simply the owner. We were so touched by the complimentary massage, lunch and drinks, and surprise private dinner on the beach for our final night – such thoughtful gestures that made our honeymoon feel even more special. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Every interaction was met with a smile, genuine warmth and a desire to make our stay unforgettable. It felt less like staying at a hotel and more like being welcomed into a place where everyone truly cared that we had the best possible experience. The resort itself is simply stunning. The villas are beautiful, the food was excellent, the grounds are immaculate and the views over the Indian Ocean are breathtaking. It is peaceful, relaxing and feels like a true escape from the world. While there were other guests, we also felt like we had the beach, the restaurant and bar to ourselves the majority of the time. One thing that made us appreciate The Aiyana even more was learning about its story. It wasn't built as a typical luxury resort. From the very beginning, it was designed to create jobs and support the local community, and that ethos is still evident today. Knowing that made our stay feel even more special. There is so much I have probably missed, but I suspect it's already covered in the many other five-star reviews. I genuinely struggle to understand how anyone could leave anything less than five stars. The only explanation I can think of is that they are comparing it with a completely different type of holiday, or expecting something that The Aiyana was never trying to be. For us, it delivered exactly what it promised – understated luxury, outstanding hospitality and a truly unforgettable experience. Thank you to Max and every single member of the team for making our honeymoon so incredibly special. We left with wonderful memories, new friends, and every intention of returning one day.
From the moment we arrived at The Aiyana Resort, Francesca and I felt completely at home. The warmth and hospitality from Max, Mr. Sungkur, and Michaela were exceptional and set the tone for an unforgettable stay—truly a reflection of the care and dedication behind the resort. We were especially grateful to be hosted in the Presidential Suite, an extraordinary space that perfectly showcases the beauty and attention to detail that defines The Aiyana. The combination of Max’s artistic vision and Mr. Sungkur’s remarkable landscaping has created a setting that is both visually stunning and deeply welcoming. Our stay was filled with meaningful touches that made celebrating both our birthdays and 10-year wedding anniversary truly unforgettable. Every detail felt thoughtfully considered, and the service throughout was seamless, attentive, and gracious. A highlight was the magical day arranged at the sandbank—an incredible location and a dream for kitesurfing when the wind is right. Equally memorable were the luxurious spa treatments, private dinners under the stars, the beautiful celebration cake, and the outstanding lobster. Each experience felt personal and perfectly curated. We are deeply thankful for such a memorable stay and will cherish these moments for years to come. With warmest regards, Jamie & Francesca
We had a wonderful stay at the Aiyana. Because of the power cuts on Pemba our room didn't have hot water and couldn't be fixed in the shirt term. My experience in Tanzania is that even with 5 star hotels you end up in discussions with this kind of problems. The staff of the Aiyana and especially the new manager and owner solved our problem and gave us an upgrade for the inconveniences. They made our stay really memorable. Refreshing to have this experience in Tanzania. Thanks again.
An extraordinary Resort on an extraordinary place, northwest Pemba, Calm and peaceful, far away from a hectic tourism. Pure relaxation. Extreme friendly staff. Very good kitchen. All wishes where fulfilled. A lot of water activities. We can highly recommend it to anyone considering a vacation there. If possible, we would give it 6 Stars. It is our definition of paradise, a true dream location. We would like to mention the Great hospitality of the staff and owners. We are looking forward to see you again in the Future.
